Rewriting Roles, Rethinking Life: A Conversation with Nikhil Kapur

“I’ve had a lot of lessons disguised as pain… I stayed in relationships too long, I held on to jobs too long. I didn’t leave when I should have.”
Oprah Winfrey

Sometimes, it takes a quiet shift to spark a revolution in thought. That’s exactly what happened in our latest episode of The AboutHer Show, when hotelier-turned-entrepreneur Nikhil Kapur joined us for a powerful and personal conversation on gender, growth, and rebooting life midstream. What followed was an honest exploration of how men can be thoughtful allies, how balance is more than a buzzword, and why change—both internal and external—requires intention.

Where it All Began

With years of experience across leading hospitality brands like The Oberoi Group, Nikhil has carved a name for himself in the world of luxury wellness and transformative travel. But what sets him apart isn’t just his professional journey—it’s his mindset. Now an entrepreneur championing holistic living, Nikhil brings a rare blend of self-awareness, cultural empathy, and personal growth into every conversation.

In this episode, he opens up about his roots, his respect for the women who’ve shaped his life, and why rebooting your life isn’t about making reckless leaps—but taking measured, mindful steps.

A Foundation of Equality

Nikhil’s story begins in a home where women were never treated as lesser. Equality wasn’t something taught; it was lived. Growing up in a family where the women around him were respected, valued, and given space to grow, Nikhil absorbed a worldview that sees men and women as partners, not competitors.

This early conditioning influenced his leadership style—whether in the boardroom or on the wellness retreat floor. As he shared, “I never saw gender as a parameter for capability. I saw women in my family excel in everything, so it was natural for me to acknowledge and expect the same in the workplace.”

Acknowledging Contributions, Noticing the Gaps

While Nikhil may have grown up in an environment of equality, he’s acutely aware that not everyone does. As he moved through his career, he noticed how frequently the contributions of women were overlooked—especially in male-dominated industries.

He spoke about the invisible labour women often do, the emotional bandwidth they carry, and the fact that these efforts are rarely celebrated the way they should be. “We need to recognize not just the visible achievements, but the quiet perseverance that powers them,” he said.

It’s a complete myth that there’s something men can do and women can’t,” he emphasized. “In fact, women can often do it better.”

This striking acknowledgment of women’s capability runs through the core of Nikhil’s belief system—one that challenges outdated assumptions and calls for a more equitable lens in both personal and professional spaces.

Being a True Ally

So how does one support the women in their life—at work, at home, in society?

For Nikhil, it’s not about performative gestures. The real support lies in amplifying voices, creating space, and being consistent in your advocacy. He shared examples of how he’s mentored women in his professional journey, ensured their contributions were spotlighted, and challenged biases in hiring or promotions.

He believes the best kind of allyship is quiet, authentic, and constant.

Midlife Rebooting: A Journey of Intention

One of the most powerful segments of the episode was when Nikhil spoke about reinventing life in midlife. Many chase reinvention like it’s a trend, but for him, it’s not a leap of faith—it’s a calculated shift.

He emphasized that midlife rebooting needs caution, clarity, and self-connection. “You cannot just escape your life and expect a new one to fix everything,” he warned. Instead, he suggests slowing down, understanding what truly drives you, and then pivoting with purpose.

His reflections echoed Oprah Winfrey’s words:

I’ve had a lot of lessons disguised as pain… I stayed in relationships too long, I held on to jobs too long. I didn’t leave when I should have.

It’s a reminder that timing matters—that holding on can be just as harmful as leaping too soon. And that wisdom often comes wrapped in discomfort.

Balance & Harmony Over Hustle

Whether speaking of career, gender dynamics, or personal transformation, one theme kept coming up in Nikhil’s conversation: balance. He believes that harmony—not hustle—is the key to sustainable success.

Be it in relationships, leadership, or lifestyle, balance is where clarity is born, and without it, burnout is inevitable. He encourages both men and women to relook at how they define achievement, and instead make room for reflection, rest, and renewal.
