A Friendship Beyond Names
Friendship, in its purest form, doesn’t seek validation. It simply is — comforting, grounding, and often, misunderstood. In this moving piece, “A Friendship Beyond Names,” Kriti Rastogi reminds us of the beauty that lies in bonds untouched by societal expectations. Through gentle yet powerful verses, she brings to life the rare connection between a boy and a girl — one not defined by romance, but by trust, care, and authenticity.
At a time when every relationship is hurriedly categorized, this poem urges us to pause, reflect, and honour the friendships that don’t fit neatly into boxes. After all, isn’t the most freeing love the one that asks for nothing but presence?

Names passing through each other like the wind,
Never fearing to be caught, caged or pinned.
Still blooming under all the wrong guesses,
Rooting deep enough amidst those orthodox messes!
A boy and a girl can never be friends- they say,
Such a pious relation unlike the typical way!
It’s a signal anyone hardly knows how to well tune,
Humming in the background- as soothing as the monsoon!
A safe space for her, free from acting perfect,
Trusting him to guard her secrets-
there’s always a special connect!
Late night calls, long talks, no drama and not at all a tension,
She’s happy with him without a label to mention!

He respects her, needless to win her over,
He can be glad, broken and can express- having nothing to cover!
There’s a relief that’s she’s listening without judging his flaws,
A sweet love-hate relation, some unique attention it draws!
People misunderstand- call her opportunist or him too rogue,
But within, they both hate explaining “just friends” to the ones who joke!
Unarmoured for her and unmasked for him,
It’s an uncomplicated friendship with days both- vivid and dim!
Protecting each other’s limits- expecting zilch in return,
A caring lifelong friend is what they both have earned!
A purity in emotions, and no burden to entitle,
Having a girl or a guy best friend in life – is unquestionably vital!
