The Inspiring Journey of Radhika Ghai
As part of our Empowerment Series, we bring you the inspiring journey of Radhika Ghai, Founder and CEO at kindlife.in and co-founder of ShopClues and India’s first woman to lead a billion-dollar e-commerce venture. From growing up in an Army household to becoming a pioneer in India’s startup ecosystem, Radhika’s story is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and relentless pursuit of dreams.
The Foundations of Resilience
Growing up as an Army kid, Radhika frequently changed schools, making building long-term friendships challenging. Yet, this nomadic childhood instilled in her the ability to adapt seamlessly to new environments and connect with diverse people. “I didn’t enjoy it then,” Radhika shared, “but it turned out to be one of the most crucial lessons of my life.” Her parents played pivotal roles in shaping her mindset, with her mother being a strong, calming influence and her father reinforcing the belief that she could achieve anything.
A Journey of Career Milestones
Radhika’s professional journey began in advertising, followed by stints at Goldman Sachs and Nordstrom, where she gained invaluable experience. It was during her time in the U.S. that she became familiar with consumer-first business models. However, it was an unexpected bedrest during a challenging pregnancy that led her to start blogging about fashion, which eventually evolved into her entrepreneurial venture. “I didn’t set out to build a billion-dollar company,” she recalled. “I just wanted to do well in whatever I was doing.”

The Birth of ShopClues
With a passion for e-commerce and consumer needs, Radhika co-founded ShopClues in 2011. Moving her team to India, she embraced the challenges of building a tech-driven company at a time when mobile data was expensive and digital shopping was in its infancy. By 2016, ShopClues became a unicorn, achieving a billion-dollar valuation. However, Radhika emphasises that the recognition wasn’t her primary goal—it was the outcome of years of hard work.
Overcoming Gender Stereotypes
As a woman entrepreneur, Radhika faced unique challenges, from being overlooked during business meetings to being subjected to questions about balancing work and family. “I detest the work-life balance question,” she said, noting that male entrepreneurs are rarely asked the same. Yet, she persevered, often finding solace and strength in communities of women founders and entrepreneurs. “Women need to support each other more than ever,” she emphasised.
A Mantra of Showing Up
Radhika’s guiding principle is simple but powerful: “Just show up.” Whether facing setbacks or successes, she believes in showing up, even on the hardest days. “It’s important not to let fear set in,” she said, sharing an anecdote from her grandfather, a paratrooper, who always emphasised getting back on the plane after a fall.
Breaking the Myth: Women as Supporters, Not Competitors
Despite the common belief that women don’t support each other, Radhika has experienced the opposite. “The strongest cohort of support in my life has been women,” she said. Whether it’s friends, colleagues, or mentors, she attributes much of her success to a community that believes in lifting each other up.
Advice to Young Women
For young women stepping into their personal and professional lives, Radhika’s advice is clear: “Be fearless.” She encourages women to push boundaries, take risks, and not let societal norms define their potential. “You don’t have to conform to anyone else’s idea of success. Define your own path, and don’t be afraid of failure.”

A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Radhika hopes to spend more time in her happy place—Goa—but her passion for building businesses remains unwavering. “Whether it’s ShopClues or something new, I’ll always be building,” she shared. For her, success is not defined by awards or accolades but by the joy she finds in her family, particularly her children, who remain her greatest source of pride.
The Empowerment Mindset
Radhika’s story is a reminder that empowerment comes from within and is amplified through community. Platforms that celebrate women’s voices play a crucial role in fostering a culture of resilience, inspiration, and growth.
Through her journey, Radhika Ghai exemplifies that with grit, adaptability, and a fearless mindset, the sky is the limit.
