Ugly

Laughing hard at things that might not even be funny,
crying hard at things that might not even hurt

The day seems so pretty because I’m around everyone.
The night seems prettier because I’m around none.

When I’m out there, I crack jokes, and I smile
When I’m in here, I feel like hiding the emotional pile

I don’t know how I transition from a cheerful to a cheerless person.
I don’t know how I transition from a beautiful to an ugly person.

I cry so hard when no one’s around
I laugh so hard when everyone is
Oh, how will I ever choose if I am that or this

When I lie down and make eye contact with my ceiling,
When I conceal all the emotional battles that I’m dealing

I weep on my pillowcase
Hoping I will not wake up with an ugly face
